Did you know that hidden on the Spanish island of Mallorca you’ll find a small piece of vegan heaven on earth? Who would have thought that Mallorca is home to one of Europe’s first 100% vegan hotels? I surely didn’t. Despite most of my fellow countrymen I have never visited Mallorca until recently, mainly because it’s bad reputation for parties, alcohol, etc. What I didn’t know is that aside from the busy party areas you’ll find the most lush nature, clearest waters and breathtaking beaches! The following Vegan Guide to Mallorca will explore the best spots to wine & dine, as well as stay!

WHERE TO STAY?

Vegan Guide to MallorcaVilla Vegana â€“ The whole time I was in Mallorca I was staying at this lush vegan paradise! Villa Vegana is one of Europe’s first 100% vegan hotels and it’s that kind of place where you arrive, immediately feel like home and never ever want to leave! The finca is located deep in the Mallorquese country side (about 30 minute drive from the airport in Palma) with breathtaking views onto the mountains and surrounded by palm trees and lush greenery. It really is such a gem and can’t recommend staying there enough – or if you can’t get a room, at least stop by for their amazing dinner (more on that later).

Vegan Guide to MallorcaApart from the unreal aesthetics of this place, everything you’ll find is done with so much love and care that you can’t but feel welcomed. The owners, Jens and Mirian, are some of the nicest people and will make sure that you’ll have the best time ever during your stay! From the second you arrive it just feels like you’re part of the big Villa Vegana family now, including their amazing rescue piggies Trudi & Tyson, the doggies Sheela & Django, the duck Leo and the cat Frida.

Vegan Guide to MallorcaThe hotel itself is designed in a rather traditional finca style with a beautiful modern twist. The front offers a beautiful sitting area for meal time or just relaxation while the back is covered in lush greenery, a pool and a lot of space for potential yoga classes/workshops. This has honestly been one of if not the favorite accommodation I’ve stayed at so far and I can’t wait to be back!  Highly recommend!

Even if you don’t manage to stay with them I’d highly recommend booking an evening for one of their amazing vegan dinners. Come hungry and prepare to be spoiled with a delicious 4-course dinner that takes you on a journey around the world! I was there for the French, Greek and Oriental evening and the food was just so creative, delicious and outstandingly beautiful it was just next level tasty! And don’t even get me started on their breakfast buffet! Everything your heart could desire for breakfast you’ll find it – from vegan mozzarella to vegan cheese, fresh salads, porridge, muesli, pretzels, bread and just a lot of fresh and tasty things

WHERE TO EAT?

Palma:
Mama Carmen’s

Vegan Guide to Mallorca
Amazing coffee shop in the beautiful neighborhood of Santa Catalina, which is said to be one of the best areas in Palma. I stumbled across this cafe by accident and I’m so glad it happened. They’re not fully vegan but have an amazing selection of vegan pastries (croissants, muffins, cakes), the best avocado bread and some amazing juices and drinks!  Highly recommended for a breakfast or quick stop for lunch!

Ziva To Go – Market/Oasis

This one has a few outlets in Palma. The concept is grab & go, with everything served in biodegradable to-go containers. Features breakfast food like granola with almond milk, raw toast, and chia pudding; plus there are salads, raw pizza, raw desserts, juice, and smoothies.

Restaurante Vegano Bon Lloc

Probably the most popular vegan/vegetarian restaurant on the island as they opene in 1978 and switched to fully vegan in 2014. Offers daily changing set of lunch menu courses. Must try!

Mymuybueno Deli

Vegan deli cafe that offers plant-based and refined sugar-free food and house-made baked goods with British influence. Has cold pressed juices, raw desserts, lunch bowls, avocado toast and more.

Plaer Natural

Small restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with cakes and different veggie meals, like pineapple gazpacho, veggie burgers, buddha bowls, and curry.

Compost

Organic vegan restaurant offering juice and smoothies. Delicious vegan food with large portions and a really nice setting and friendly service! You’ll find anything from cauliflower ‘no rice’ sushi, gnocchi in shitake sauce and delicious breads. Desserts have sugar and gluten-free options!

Sabores de Sandra

Completely vegan restaurant that offers dishes like lasagna, quiche, soups and desserts such as tiramisu. They also make their own homemade bread which is delicious.

Cafe Bagel

Bagel bakery cafe in the old town. Offers mostly vegan food for breakfast and lunch, such as vegan croissants and open face bagel sandwiches with cashew creme and veggies. Beverages include smoothies, tea, coffee, local & South African wine along with Spanish and German beer.

Port de Pollença

Bellaverde Vegan & Vegetarian Restaurant

Vegetarian restaurant within the Pension Bellavista that offers several vegan options like a meze plate, burgers, fake kebab plate and desserts like lemon meringue or banoffee pot.

Inca

Es Ginebró

Vegetarian restaurant with an organic certification. Around half of the food offered is vegan. Offers 4-course meals, with a daily changing menu. Example of dishes may be polenta and potatoes, stuffed peppers, bean stew, quinoa with veggies, and sweet potato fritters.

WHAT TO DO?

Vegan Guide to MallorcaFor some beach time and a little exploration around the island I’d recommend a few beaches that I personally really liked:

  • Cala Llombard / Cala s’Almonia

Vegan Guide to Mallorca
Both beaches/bays are just incredible and very picturesque. I’ve never gotten so many questions on Instagram about where a photo was taken so it seems like I’m not the only one who loves the aesthetics of this place.

  • Cala Pi

Vegan Guide to Mallorca
Another very beautiful, but also very crowded place. If you go early in the morning though it can be very nice!

  • Calo des Moro

Vegan Guide to MallorcaInsanely beautiful beach with the craziest crystal clear waters that are ice cold and refreshing even in July! Again – recommended to come early, especially during high season!
